A PUBLIC consultation seeking the views on designating a parish in Malvern as a neighbourhood area is to launch later this week.
Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council has submitted an application to Malvern Hills District Council to designate Welland as a neighbourhood area with a view to developing a formal neighbourhood plan.
Neighbourhood plans are a key part of the Government’s localism agenda to give local people more of a say on issues such as where new homes, shops and offices should be built and the design of new developments.
The district council is inviting comment on the applications, particularly from those living or working in the area, during a six-week public consultation starting on Friday (February 21). The deadline to submit comments is 5pm on Friday, April 4.
Don Atkinson, chair of Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council, added: “Whilst Welland village benefits from a variety of local facilities and natural assets, it currently lacks identity.
“In the past, piecemeal development has come forward in isolation rather than being part of a vision for the village as a whole.
“A neighbourhood plan will help shape the future growth of the village through a community led approach, promoting innovation and engendering a strong sense of place, making Welland an attractive place to live, work and play in.”
