Town draw with arch rivals

LEDBURY Town’s first match in four weeks proved a damp squid as they were held to a goalless draw to arch-rivals Bartrestree.

Paul Mann’s side were unable to take advantage of several chances created by his determined outfit as the stalemate means Ledbury slip to 12th in Division One of the West Midlands Regional League.

The hosts had the first real attempt at goal when a free-kick was deflected just wide. Bartestree keeper Eliot Watts was then caught off his line on the 26th minute but he was able to chase the ball down and tip it wide.

Ledbury grew in confidence as a shot from defender Tom Watkins was saved before a further effort from striker Dan Herbert was narrowly put wide.

The second half began with Watts allowing the ball to hit the post while Herbert saw his shot travel wide of the target moments later.

Boyle and Herbert combined to set up a promising attack until Bartestree’s defence stood firm to clear the ball out for a corner.

Jamie Welch had the final chance of the game with three minutes left, but he could only head the ball over the bar.

Ledbury will be looking record their first win in 2014 when they visit Shenstone on Saturday (3pm).
