A MALVERN woman has been given a 12-month community order after driving nearly three times over the legal drink drive limit.
Pauline Goodman of Stocks Lane has been given 12 months’ supervision, ordered to take part in the Drink Impaired Drivers Programme, banned from getting behind the wheel for 24 months and ordered to pay £145 in court costs and victim surcharges after pleading guilty to drink driving.
The incident happened on February 11 about 6.45pm when the 55-year-old blew 98 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath after police had stopped her on the A4103 Leigh Sinton.
Last Friday (February 28), Worcester Magistrates Court heard officers were driving an unmarked vehicle when they saw Goodman swerving from left to right in a Subaru so decided to pull her over, instantly smelling alcohol on her breath.
The court also heard the defendant had been at the pub drinking with friends and carried on after her partner said he would go home and get on with the cooking.
Ann Matthews, defending solicitor, said: “She did not set out to drink and drive, she drove to the pub which is actually only 500 yards from her house.
“She went to the car and it was pouring down with rain and she foolishly got into the car and drove home, it’s now going to cost her.
“There was no risk of leaving it in the car park, there was nothing she could put forward that forced her to drive those 500 yards.”
District Judge Nigel Cadbury said: “In take into account it was only going to be a short distance you drove but it was still quite early in the evening when there could have been, and probably was, a lot of traffic about.”
Goodman was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £60.
