Home defeat hits Ledbury's title bid

LEDBURY’S bid to claim the Midlands Three West (South) title suffered a huge set back on Saturday as they slumped to a 25-10 defeat to Old Wheatleyans.

The Herefordshire outfit, who were looking to maintain pressure on leaders Pinley, got off to a strong start at Ross Road. Dave Bromage opened the scoring with a second minute penalty before lock Steve Humphreys burrowed over, which Bromage converted.

However, third placed Ledbury failed to build on their 10-0 advantage against their Coventry-based opponents who struck twice just before the break.

The double blow proved to be the turning point as Wheatleyans added two further tries in the second half to condemn Ledbury to their first home defeat of the season.

The result also leaves Paul Rudland’s men ten points off Pinley with four games remaining.

But Ledbury’s attention will now turn to the North Midlands Shield where they will be hoping to reach the final with victory over Stourbridge Lions on Saturday (3pm).
