Mayor in the saddle

Malvern Editorial 1st May, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

THE MAYOR is set to lead a team of cyclists on a 100 mile route around Malvern for his chosen charity.

Residents have been welcomed to cheer the peloton on when they set off from Victoria Park at 8.30am on Monday (May 5).

Their route will take in various places in and around Malvern including Hanley Swan, Upton, Ledbury, Colwall and West Malvern.

Mayor Julian Roskams who came up with the idea said: “I do a lot of cycling and have done a lot of events in the past.

“It is a fabulous way of seeing the area and a lovely form of exercise. It is the ideal way to raise money for a good cause.”

Money raised will be donated to Malvern Special Families, the mayor’s chosen charity for the year, with Monday’s event set to be his last fund-raiser of his current term in the role.

Philippa Barton, manager at the charity said: “This is an amazing challenge and we are really grateful they would do this for us.

“We have really appreciated the mayor’s support this year which has helped raise money for us to run great classes for children and young people with disabilities.”

Around ten people will be taking part in the Mayor’s Mad Cycle and residents have also been welcomed to join the group on their expected return to Victoria Park around 4.30pm the same day.
