Red Ladies set for Malvern visit

RED WILL be the colour at the Malvern Theatres this weekend when a unique show comes to town.

Clod Ensemble will present their latest production of Red Ladies to the Grange Road venue on Saturday (July 19) starting at 7.45pm.

The show features 18 women who are identically dressed in red headscarves red stilettos, black trench coats and sunglasses and made up of actors, dancers, independent artists and musicians

The piece has two elements – the outside ‘missions’ in public spaces (streets, rooftops, riverbanks, public gardens) and the indoor ‘theatrical demonstration’ and acts as an investigation into how human beings behave in groups,

Red Ladies is a metaphor for complex, emergent systems in the natural world. When they arrive in a town or city the Red Ladies draw attention to the architecture, the plants, and the wildlife. They observe. They place sites of political importance under surveillance. They map the city and make connections between things within it.

A non-narrative piece the show is a visual poem which invites the audience to sit back and watch their performance as if observing a shifting landscape, weather system or a rare species of wildlife.

Among the cast will be 86-year-old Diana Payne Myers who is still working as a dancer.

Diana was friends with Audrey Hepburn back in the day and appeared on stages all over Britain in a variety of ballet and contemporary dance as well as popular roles in panto and seaside summer seasons as well as performing with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Tickets for the show cost £18.60 and are available by visiting www.malvern-theatres.co.uk or by calling 01684 892277.
