MALVERN has once again scooped a gold award in the Heart of England in Bloom competition – the town’s eighth in nine years.
Representatives from the town and Malvern in Bloom group were given the good news on Thursday (September 11) at a ceremony in Shrewsbury.
However Malvern did not come out on top in the region overall, finishing behind Biddulph in Staffordshire which took the honour for the third year in a row.
Now attention turns to the results of Britain in Bloom, after the town was put forward for the first time ever in the national competition.
John Jordan, from Malvern in Bloom, said: “We are very pleased to get our eighth gold in nine years. It is very much a team effort in Malvern involving people from all walks of life. Staff from the town and district councils, private organisations, groups such as the Spa and Civic society, as well as individuals have all played their part.
“And credit should go to everyone who has contributed for this accolade.
“We didn’t win overall but we are up against a tough team in Biddulph and coming behind them is certainly no disgrace.”
The results of Britain in Bloom are set to be delivered at a ceremony in Bristol on October 16.
Mr Jordan added: “This year the regional judges picked us up on various points as we were going around the town which we tried to put right in the few days before the national judges arrived. It will be very interesting to see if we scored higher in the national competition.
“It is both a compliment and a great challenge to be involved in Britain in Bloom so hopefully we managed to improve between the two judging dates.”
