Malvern hedgerows restored to connect woodland

Malvern Editorial 9th Feb, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

HEDGEROWS have been restored to connect woodland in West Malvern.

Volunteers from Malvern Hills Conservators worked on the area thanks to Malvern Hills Rotary Club, who applied to the Woodland Trust for packs of native species.

Over 80 shrubs and trees were planted by 19 volunteers and two Rotary members near Parkwood, including crab apple, dog rose and oak.

A spokeswoman said: “Hedgerows are becoming increasingly important features in the UK’s countryside.

“As woodlands become more fragmented and separated from other patches of woodland, hedgerows form a ‘wildlife highway’ along which birds, mammals and other creatures can travel in relative safety.”
