THE LIBERAL Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Malvern has welcomed the decision to reject proposals to build 150 homes off Hayslan Road.
Dennis Wharton, candidate for West Worcestershire, reacted after Malvern Hills District Council’s Southern Area Development Management Committee unanimously refused the controversial plans to develop Hayslan Fields, the town’s ‘green lung’.
He said: “This is a great day for local democracy. The outcome of the meeting reflects fully the feelings and views of the community surrounding the ‘green lung’.
“The proposal to develop the land was strongly opposed by a large number of residents, the Pickersleigh Residents Group submitting a petition of 1,538 signatures, the Civic Society, the Campaign for the Preservation of Rural England and now the Malvern councillors.
“With such strong opposition, the decision was the right one in the end.”
