A NUMBER of jobs look set to be saved in the town after a leading engineering firm was sold.
Dytecna Limited had been plunged into administration on February 4 and two weeks later – when a buyer could not be found – the business ceased trading and subsequently made 95 members of staff redundant.
But the assets of the Science Park based firm have since been sold to Exsel Dytecna Engineering, a company owned by Dynasystems Limited.
The sale will result in the employment of 65 members of staff across the Dytecna premises located in Malvern, Fareham and Welshpool, with about 30 jobs expected to be located in Malvern.
Philip Watkins, joint administrator at FRP Advisory which was appointed when Dytecna went into administration, said: “We are delighted to have completed this transaction to Exsel Dytecna Engineering who will now be able to support Dytecna customers.”
A Dynasystems spokesperson added: “This will create a more efficient and stronger business all round, by taking on the legacy of Dytecna into Exsel Dytecna Engineering Limited and will create much needed jobs for the people, local economies and UK Defence Manufacturing.
“This new stronger organisation will build on the combined capabilities of these businesses and provide access to a wider market place to enable the planned growth of this combined entity.”
Prior to entering administration the firm, which provides design, product and manufacturing innovation to defence and industry, had faced a deterioration in trading which put unsustainable pressure on the business.
Harriett Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, added: “I am pleased to hear this good news and I hope that as many jobs as possible can be retained in Malvern.
“The team of employees at Dytecna are highly skilled and are in high demand by employers.
“If I can help with individual circumstances, my constituency office is right next door.”
Simon Smith, economic development manager at Malvern Hills District Council, added: “This is obviously welcome news and we understand around 30 local staff have been taken on by Exsel Engineering and are pleased that this offers them employment for now.
“We will look to liaise with the Exsel on their longer term intentions for operating in Malvern and continue to promote job opportunities in the area to other affected Dytecna staff with updates on our website at www.malvernhills.gov.uk/jobs.”
