MALVERN Hills District Council has raised the Commonwealth flag as part of a ceremony of dedication.

The symbol was put up at 10am last Monday (March 9) together with more than 730 other Commonwealth flags in 38 Commonwealth countries.

A specially written speech was read out by Coun David Hughes, leader of the council, before the flag was raised.

Coun Hughes said: “It was an honour to be a part of this unique ceremony by raising the flag as a mark of commitment to the Commonwealth and appreciation of the values it stands for as set out on the Commonwealth charter.

“It was a great experience to be able to share the event at the same time with local communities and other countries around the globe, showing a real sense of joining together.”
