A GROUP of psychotherapists and counsellors have joined forces to provide a private practice to support GPs and NHS services.
Warwickshire and Worcestershire Counselling Service has been established by Dr Karen Carrington, Irwin Crowe, Suzi Lauder, Karen Lloyd, Mo Rye, Amber Threapleton and Dr Per Svenson.
Patients will now be able to choose their own therapist from the umbrella organisation, depending on their need and the therapist’s particular specialisms.
Group spokesperson Ms Lauder said: “Often, finding the right therapist is as important as taking the decision to consult a therapist in the first place.
“The idea of setting up the group was to support GPs by providing them with an additional source of mental health expertise to enable them to support mental health patients as quickly and effectively as those patients with physical health conditions.
“In addition, the service would enable individuals to be proactive in their own self care, thereby reducing the need for extensive medical intervention and provision of NHS resources.”
The team draws its expertise from a range of therapy techniques including cognitive behavioural therapy and transactional analysis to help individuals suffering from a wide range of issues, including abuse, addictions, depression and eating disorders.
Ms Lauder added: “One in four of us will suffer at some time with mental health issues and it is vitally important to address these issues promptly and with professional health and support.
“Whether you come to us through hearing about our services from your GP or you want to contact us directly, you are not alone and you do not need to wait to get your situation and issues addressed that to you, are of immediate concern.”
