A MALVERN group are hoping to strike lucky and ‘rev up’ the cash when it hosts a charity fund-raiser.

Malvern and District Motorcycle and Light Van Club has organised a skittles tournament in a bid to rake in funds for the Rory the Robot appeal.

Money will be donated to the cause after one of the group’s members was treated for prostate cancer at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Andy Ledington, club chairman, said: “We decided to help knock down prostate cancer one skittle at a time.

“We like to support local causes and Rory the Robot appealed to us because we have a lot of members who could potentially benefit from him at some point.”

More than 30 teams from Malvern and the surrounding area will take part in the competition, which starts in June and will run throughout the summer.

It will be the second year running the club has put the tournament on for Rory the Robot, having raised £1,250 for the appeal 12 months ago.

Nick Taylor, the club’s vice chairman, added: “The charity benefits because we raise money for it and the players will benefit from finding out more about prostate cancer.”

The campaign aims to raise £1.6million to buy a surgical machine which will allow surgeons to remove tumours with more precision.

The deadline for entries is Friday (May 22) and it costs £12 per team. To enter email [email protected].
