Free childcare welcomed by town MP

MALVERN’S MP has welcomed measures announced by the Prime Minister which will see working parents get 30 hours of free childcare support each week.

The decision is set to be a huge boost to working families and is aimed at helping more parents with young families balance work and family life.

The Childcare Bill will double free childcare available for all working parents of three and four year old children to 30 hours a week.

And Harriett Baldwin, Conservative MP for West Worcestershire, has backed David Cameron’s decision after campaigning for better childcare funding since she was first elected in 2010.

“I welcome the announcement by the Prime Minister,” Mrs Baldwin said. “It is good that with a Conservative majority Government we are able to bring the timetable forward to implement these important changes to help hard-working families.

“High childcare costs have become an increasingly dominant factor when families are thinking about how to balance work and family life.

“I have met many young women in West Worcestershire who have been struggling to pay for childcare and want to be able to work.

“Every parent knows that giving a child the best possible start in life is crucial.

“These measures will help parents to ensure their child gets a good quality childcare place, as well as allowing parents to return to the workplace if they want to.”
