A PAIR of ‘inspirational’ blood donors have been honoured for their efforts at a prestigious ceremony.
Roger Pitt and Andy Walker, who potentially have saved more than 600 lives between them, were recognised by NHS Blood and Transplant for the loyalty and commitment they have shown.
The two men had made 204 donations collectively and were awarded commemorative medals at the event in Droitwich.
Roger, 67, from Upper Welland, has donated blood for 45 years.
“Giving blood is easy and a good way to help others,” he said. “I followed my mother’s example and now I am very proud that my wife and two children are blood donors also.”
Roger and Andy, from Malvern, joined 40 other blood donors from the West Midlands, Hereford and Worcestershire. All those at the ceremony had donated at least 100 times.
Each blood donation has the potential to save the lives of up to three people.
Karen Healy, senior marketing co-ordinator at NHS Blood and Transplant, added: “These loyal donors are very special to us, which is why such an event gives us the opportunity to say a real heartfelt thanks.
“Between them, they have saved hundreds of lives and improved the lives of countless others who have required blood transfusions. These donors are an inspiration to us all.”
