IT WAS all ‘go go go’ at the University of Worcester when Upton born and former Formula One legend Nigel Mansell received an honorary degree.

Mansell was the special guest at the university on Friday (November 20) after he was awarded the Doctor of Science at Worcester Cathedral.

The former racing driver, who won the World Championship in 1992, described the day on Twitter as ‘amazing’.

He tweeted: “At the University of Worcester being Awarded Doctor of Science at Worcester Cathedral amazing Day. Thank you all.”

Mansell, who currently lives in Jersey, also won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year on two occasions in 1986 and 1992. Only two other sports stars have won the contest twice – boxer Henry Cooper (1967 and 1970) and fellow Formula One world champion Damon Hill (1994 and 1996).

The day also proved a special one for Malvern Instruments managing director Paul Walker who was awarded a fellowship by the university.

Mr Walker was appointed the firm’s managing director in 1995. The world leading company, based at Enigma Business Park, provides technology and expertise to scientists and engineers.

Since 1999 Mr Walker has been a non-executive director of Malvern Hills Science Park.
