Young footballers enjoy chance meeting with Premier League stars

YOUNG footballers from Malvern were left in dream land when they had the chance to chat and have snaps with three Premier League stars.

It was a day to remember for Leigh and Bransford Badgers who were invited to visit The Hawthorns – the home ground of West Bromwich Albion ahead of their recent home match to league giants Arsenal.

The tour had been arranged by the Albion Foundation – a charity which works in partnership with the club helping increase sports participation across West Bromwich.

But while the youngsters were testing the seats of the WBA dugout they were left stunned when four of the club’s stars Darren Fletcher, Jonny Evans, James McClean and Callum McManaman popped by for a chat.

Both Fletcher and Evans had previously played for Manchester United – one of the country’s most successful football clubs.

Alison Oliver, whose son Lewis plays for the Badgers, told the Observer: “My son was thrilled to meet his idols. It was very kind of the players to stop and meet the boys it shows great professionalism and respect for the fans. I’m thrilled he has chosen such great role models.

“These kind of experiences will stay with these young players throughout their football careers and it demonstrates the really positive impact The Albion Foundation is having in Worcestershire and in the wider community.

“Many Leigh and Bransford Badgers players now play with The Albion Foundation in their Worcester and Malvern teams and enjoy their holiday clubs.

“Certainly a number of players have decided to become West Bromwich fans as a result. Come on the Baggies!”
