A MALVERN artist is to showcase her work at a London gallery next month after one of her paintings was shortlisted for the UK’s most respected prize for representational paintings.

Kay Bainbridge, of West Malvern Road, has seen her Municipal Swimming painting nominated for the prestigious Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize and it will be on show at the Mall Galleries from Monday, March 7 to Sunday, March 13.

Kay is one of 130 hopefuls whose work has been selected for the award by a panel of distinguished artists with the winner claiming the prize of £15,000.

The 48-year-old has also been the owner of No4a Artist Studios and Gallery, where she hosts exhibitions for local and national artists alongside her own works, for five years.

She said: “I am overjoyed that my work has been selected for the award, it’s nice to have been recognised.

“If I won the money it would be a great feeling and it would go straight back into my business so I can produce more work.

“I would also fund a trip to go to my favourite museum, the Munch Museum in Oslo.”

Kay has been involved in art for 22 years and has a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Fine Art, from Winchester University and a Masters in Children’s Book Illustrations from the Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge.

She also told the Observer she will continue entering competitions.

“After London, I’ll just keep checking for competitions that I can enter and hopefully get some recognition.

“I have a solo show at No.4a in June and will be part of a group show at The Artist Workhouse Gallery, Studley, in October.”
