‘THE HILLSIDERS’ has been chosen as Malvern Town FC’s new official nickname on the year of its 70th anniversary.
Out of more than 100 votes from Observer readers, ‘The Hillsiders’ received more than 50 per cent of votes making it a clear winner. The Enigmas’ finished in second place with more than 20 per cent of the vote.
Malvern Town was formed in 1946 and has been referred to as ‘The Town’ for decades but despite this no official nickname has been adopted for the club.
In January, the Observer asked readers to suggest potential new nicknames which were whittled down to a final five by Malvern Town FC bosses.
Speaking after ‘The Hillsiders’ was chosen as the club’s new nickname, managing director Chris Pinder said: “I’m really pleased with the number of people who voted, I hope they’ll all make it to a game at some point soon.
“The club will begin to officially adopt the nickname ‘The Hillsiders’ immediately.
“It will be interesting to see how quickly it takes hold amongst the populous and football community.”
Malvern Observer editor Nigel Slater added: “It’s great that the club have backed us launching this nickname poll. It has no doubt created an interesting conversation topic in recent weeks.
“Chris Pinder said at the start of the year he wanted more people taking about Malvern Town FC and I hope by having this nickname vote – chosen by our readers and Malvern town supporters – has helped do this.”
