Malvern Town hope to return to winning ways against Stone Old Alleynians

MALVERN Town will be looking to put the frustration of their midweek 2-1 defeat to Pegasus Juniors behind them this weekend as they make the trip to Stone Old Alleynians.

The Hillsiders lost out to Herefordshire-based Pegasus on Tuesday in a replay of their West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division clash which was abandoned in January after 66 minutes with the scoreline 5-1 to Malvern.

Two months later, the replay saw Pegasus do the league double over their local rivals, a result which saw Malvern drop to ninth in the table.

Malvern boss Les Jones told the Observer his side are focused on putting the loss behind them as they take on Alleynians for the first time this season on Saturday (March 12).

“It’s a really frustrating result for us, given the situation and that we had enough chances to win the game and some of the decisions did not go our way.

“We have been on a fantastic run since Christmas but the fixture backlog has caused a few injuries which has not helped over the last two games.

“I’m not disappointed though, we have been fantastic but we just need to get the results to match the performances.”

Going into the game at Alleynians, midfielder Philip Harris, centre-back Dene Whittal-Williams and goalkeeper Charles Weaver are doubtful, but in-form striker Luke Corbett is set to make a return.

And for Jones, a win this weekend at Alleynians is paramount if the Hillsiders are to have any hope of maintaining their target of a top five finish – securing FA Cup qualification.

“I am absolutely positive that we can still achieve a top five finish,” he added.

“We need to go out there and return to winning ways and get a few back-to-back victories.

“I’ve got tremendous attacking options in the squad, especially with the return of Corbett, but it’s not just about scoring, it’s also about not giving goals away too.”
