MALVERN TOWN’S in-form striker Luke Corbett insists more is still to come from him despite his impressive goal tally in recent weeks.
Since joining the Hillsiders in January, the 31-year-old sharp-shooter has netted nine goals in six games, a run of form which has helped his side climb up to sixth in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division table.
Corbett was once again on the scoresheet on Saturday when he netted two goals in Malvern’s thrilling 5-4 win over Stone Old Alleynians.
Malvern went 2-0 up inside the first 20 minutes before surrendering their two-goal lead ten minutes later, however Corbett put Malvern back in front on the stroke of half time.
After the break, Corbett netted again to restore the two-goal advantage but once again Alleynians drew level to make it 4-4 before Ben Hayes’ goal three minutes from time clinched the win for the visitors.
Corbett failed to score in his first two games for Malvern but from then on has gone from strength to strength, making him a vital option in Malvern’s attack.
“I am really pleased to have got on the scoresheet over the last few games but I’m still looking to improve my overall game,” he told the Observer.
“I am not totally happy with how I am playing at the moment so expect a lot more to come from me.”
Despite Saturday’s dramatic win, Corbett believes the players made it hard for themselves after throwing away a two-goal lead twice before snatching the 87th minute winner.
“I’m really delighted with the performance on Saturday but we need to make things easier on ourselves,” he added.
“After leading 2-0 and then to be pegged back before going 4-2 up only to see us concede another two was frustrating.
“It was definitely an entertaining game for the fans but we made hard work of it.
“However, it’s good to be back to winning ways and to see us score five goals away from home.”
At the start of the season Corbett was plying his trade at Midland League Division One title-chasers Bromsgrove Sporting but suffered a slipped disc which kept him out for three months, so he made the switch to Malvern for more first team opportunities.
Jones has been impressed by the striker’s fruitful goal return so far and he hopes he can keep it up throughout the remainder of the season.
“It’s been great having Luke on board and he’s been brilliant for us,” he added.
“We have got fantastic attacking option and I have been very impressed with Luke’s link-up play with the other strikers.”
