Malvern Editorial 15th Mar, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

FREE GIGS will be held when the sights and sounds of the Great Malvern Jazz Weekend returns next week.

The event, organised by Robin Miller and supported by Malvern Hills District Council, takes place from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 March in various venues including Oliver’s, The Great Malvern Hotel, The Foley Arms, and Cottage In The Wood.

Now in its third year, the festival will also feature live music outdoors on Belle Vue Terrace.

The weekend has an impressive line-up of local and national Jazz artists, including guitarist Jim Mullen who will be performing with his organ trio.

Mullen has played with Brian Auger’s ‘Oblivion’ as well as a period with the Average White Band in the 1970s, before co-leading the Morrissey–Mullen group with tenor saxophonist Dick Morrissey throughout much of the 1980s.

Other names appearing include the fine young trumpeter, Bryan Corbett who will be bringing his latest quartet and playing a selection of originals from his latest album. Cheltenham based tenor saxophonist Dom Franks, and the Malvern Big Band will be teaming up with local singing legend, Paul ’Toad’ Seabright to play a selection of modern and swing big band jazz arrangements.

Phil Grove, Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “The event is always a popular weekend and buzzing with activity. It’s good to see it returning once again with another great line-up and we look forward to welcoming more visitors to our wonderful town.”
