Uncertainty over when Brewers Arms will open again after licensees opt to leave

UNCERTAINTY surrounds when a popular Malvern pub will open for business again after its current licensees chose to end their association with the venue.

It is unknown at this stage when the Brewers Arms will return to business after couple Shane Hobson and Karen Longden announced it would hand over the keys back to Admiral Taverns, who own the pub, on Thursday.

The pair announced on Facebook the pub would be closed for the remainder of the week as a result but Admiral Taverns have not gave details of when it will re-open again.

Shane and Karen only took over the management of the pub at the start of the year but for reasons unknown have decided to end their stint as licensees earlier than their six-month lease expiry date.

The pair posted on the pub’s official Facebook page: “Sorry to say we have decided to close the doors and won’t be opening for the rest of the week.

“We hand the keys back to Admiral Taverns on Thursday.

“We wish to thank all our customers for their support and hope the next tenants all the best.”

The couple took over from former licensee Chris Tandy who caused controversy at the end of last year by initially refusing children to go into the pub at night times.

In a statement, Admiral Taverns said they could not reveal why Shane and Karen had opted to leave the premises but added a recruitment campaign to find a new licensee is underway.

Ali Martinez, business development manager of Admiral Taverns, said: “I can confirm that the licensee for the Brewers Arms has chosen to leave the pub, we would not comment on individual circumstances beyond that.

“We are now recruiting for a new licensee. Anyone who is interested should call our recruitment team on 01244 505255.”
