A LEADING and respected councillor has sent a heartfelt thank you message to members of the public for their ‘amazing’ support and revealed he nearly lost the people closest to him after he suffered serious injuries from an horrific bonfire accident.
The Powick district and county councillor is currently undergoing treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for burn injuries which were sustained during the accident at his Callow End home on Thursday, April 7 just after 5pm.
As reported in last week’s Malvern Observer, floods of goodwill messages were sent to Coun Wells from friends and colleagues who wished the ‘colossus’ councillor a safe and speedy recovery following the accident.
His condition is stable but it is thought he could be in hospital for at least six more weeks due to the seriousness of his condition.
The accident came just days after he played an instrumental part in securing a vital temporary bus service for rural residents who were left stranded following a decision from First Group to withdraw services into Malvern.
Away from his council duties, Coun Wells is also well known for being a musical director for the Powick Community Choir.
On Sunday night a Facebook post from Tom Wells’ Page said the support in messags and cards received meant so much to him as he starts his recovery journey.
It reads: “A huge thank you to everyone for your amazing support and kindness over the last 10 days or so.
“This has meant so much to me and has been a massive help as I begin the road to recovery.
“To my dear friends in Powick Community Choir I simply say that you mean so much to me. And I very nearly lost you.
“To my council colleagues; thank you for giving me all the opportunities I’ve enjoyed over the last 20 years. And to those who live in our local villages; at a time when most politicians are rightfully treated with disdain and distrust your friendship means so much to me.”
