MALVERN’s Morgan Motor Company has helped drive forward improvements to healthcare for cancer sufferers after donating £1,000 to the Worcestershire Oncology Centre.
The four-figure sum was raised when motoring website “PistonHeads”, held one of its Sunday Service events at Morgan’s HQ on Pickersleigh Road last month.
A full range of Morgan cars were on display and visitors each had the chance to take a short passenger ride in return for a donation to Morgan’s chosen charity, the Worcestershire Oncology Centre.
The £25million state-of-the-art centre, based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, officially opened last year and has treated more than 1,000 cancer patients in its first year.
Patients, their families and their carers, previously had to travel to Coventry, Cheltenham or Wolverhampton for radiotherapy treatment.
The £1,000 cheque follows a similar amount raised as part of the same event held last year.
A cheque was presented to Dr Chris Price, consultant oncologist and associate medical director, and Mr Adel Makar, consultant urological surgeon and associate medical director at the Oncology Centre by Steve Morris, Managing Director of Morgan and the firm’s events manager Jayne Jones.
Mr Makar said: “We are delighted to receive this very generous donation from Morgan Motor Company.
“It’s fantastic that a local company of such high esteem has chosen to donate to our new Oncology Centre. We are already transforming the lives of some of our most seriously ill patients in Worcestershire.
“The Oncology Centre’s aim is to provide the very best available cancer treatment, closer to patient’s homes. So I can’t thank Morgan Motor Company enough for this donation.
“Their contribution will support the Oncology Centre to continue providing first-class patient care.”
Mr Morris from Morgan added: “We are honoured to present this cheque to staff at the Worcestershire Oncology Centre. The funds raised represent efforts from our staff and visitors at the recent PistonHeads event, and we are thrilled to provide continuing support to such a vital local service.”
