Malvern Editorial 11th May, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

THE LEADER of Malvern Hills District Council has been re-elected to serve for another year.

Coun Phil Grove was given the green light to continue in the role he has held since May last year following a vote at an annual council meeting on Tuesday.

He is currently in his second spell as leader of Malvern Hills District Council having previously carried out the role between 2009 and 2012.

Coun David Chambers was elected deputy leader as well as continuing his role as portfolio holder for policy, localism and HR. He replaces Coun Bronwen Behan who has been deputy leader for the past 12 months.

Coun Grove said: “I’m delighted to have won the support of my fellow councillors and look forward to continuing in the role for another 12 months.

“I’d also like to thank Coun Behan for her support and efforts and look forward to working with Coun Chambers in the future.

“Under my leadership we’ve achieved a lot over the last year. We’ve produced a new five year plan which sets out how we’re going to continue to deliver for our residents despite the financial pressure we’re under.

“We’ve also published our five year business plan which demonstrates how we are going to meet that financial challenge while protecting front line services.

“We’ve seen the creation of a new joint senior management team which has delivered significant savings to the council taxpayer while injecting a fresh energy and enthusiasm into the organisation.

“There’s a lot more to come from us in the coming weeks and months and I look forward to building on the solid start we have made.”
