COLWALL significantly boosted their hopes of becoming Worcestershire Cricket League champions after beating Worcester Nomads in the weekend’s anticipated top-of-the-table clash.

The Malvern side go into the halfway mark of the season in top spot of Division 1 after securing a confident six-wicket win to leap frog their opponents in what was their biggest game of the season so far.

Two wickets apiece from Jack Knight-Adams and Wehan Joubert helped Colwall restrict Worcester Nomads to 194-7 from their allotted 50 overs.

And Colwall had no problem chasing the below par total as steady contributions from their top seven batsman helped them secure the win inside 42 overs.

Captain Nick Panniers told the Observer he was thrilled the way his side came out on top against strong opposition.

“It was a very pleasing victory and to go top of the table means its all good for us at the moment,” he said. “Hopefully we can stay there until the end of the season.

“We often have good matches against Nomads and it was nice to carry on that.

“We’ve just got to take things one game at a time. There is a long way to go yet, we’ll just have to wait to see what happens.”

The win moved Colwall twelve points clear at the top of the table ahead of second place Nomads. They return to action on Saturday when they entertain Bewdley at home.
