MALVERN archer Vicky Jenkins will make her Paralympic debut at Rio 2016 after she was selected for Team GB today (Friday).
The British Paralympic Association (BPA) received confirmation that an application to the International Federation for Archery for a bipartite place for Jenkins was successful.
Bipartite selection is a separate qualification method which allows top athletes in each sport to compete in the Games but also respects the Paralympic Games Guiding Principles.
This means Jenkins will become the 11th athlete selected for the sport of archery and will compete in the W1 compound competition.
Jenkins started competing in archery in 2010 and has progressed quickly through the ranks to win a 2014 European Championship Silver medal in the individual W1 competition.
She said: “I’m very proud to have been chosen for the bipartite place and to represent my country.
“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me on my journey and helped me to achieve this.
“I’m looking forward to experiencing my first Paralympic Games in Rio and competing at the highest level of my sport.”
Penny Briscoe MBE, Chef de Mission for ParalympicsGB, added: “Vicky has showed fantastic progress over the last few years and I am very pleased that she will be joining the rest of the archery team at the Paralympic Games.
“I wish her the best of luck in these final days of preparation before flying to Rio with the rest of the team.”
