A BOWLING club’s hopes of extending their lease to revamp its clubhouse have been boosted after they were backed by council members.
Bosses of Malvern Victoria Bowling Club, who are based in Victoria Park, saw their proposal for Malvern Town Council to extend the lease by a further ten years approved at the council’s policy and resources meeting at the end of last month.
Founded in 1908, the club currently holds a 30-year lease from Malvern Town Council which is due to end in 2027.
As the town council are not responsible for repairs or maintenance at the bowling green and pavilion, the bowling club needed to apply for an extended lease in a bid to make a stronger case for grant support.
Work on modernising the clubhouse is expected to cost £160,000 and £50,000 has been raised so far towards the project.
A final decision on extending the lease for an extra ten years will be decided at a full council meeting on Tuesday, September 6.
