New family walking group hailed huge success

A NEW Malvern Hills walking group aimed at families with young babies and toddlers has been hailed a success.

Malvern Hills NCT launched their first ‘Mondays up the Malverns’ walk on Monday, August 29, where 55 people were taken across the iconic hills by the group’s volunteers, Hannah Cooper, Libby Langley-Waylen and Naomi Blayney.

Families came from as far as Ross-on-Wye to enjoy the walk, which was the shortest of five routes that range from from 2km to 3.5km.

The youngest baby in attendance was just three-weeks-old and the oldest toddler was 23-months-old.

The parent support group has been given a grant from Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to aid its walks, which has been put towards baby slings.

Hannah Cooper, Malvern Hills NCT branch coordinator, said: “It was beautifully shady in the woodland and there was plenty of benches in case parents needed to stop for a feed or change.”

David Armitage, assistant AONB partnership manager, added: “We’re so pleased to be able to help new mums and their babies take the tonic of fresh air, exercise and friendship, all in such a beautiful landscape.”

The walks will take place each Monday from Blackhill car park from 10.30am to 11.30am.
