Malvern Town boss hopes his side can learn from midweek mistakes

LES JONES says Malvern Town must learn from their mistakes after being held to a frustrating 2-2 draw at Dudley Sports on Tuesday night.

Despite the Hillsiders racing into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Bryan Craven and Dave Reynolds, they threw away their advantage as Christopher Rabone and Dominic Strevens salvaged a point for Sports.

The result ensured Malvern remained third in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division table, one point behind Haughmond and seven points behind runaway leaders Wolverhampton Sporting Community who boast a 100 per cent winning record after nine games.

And with Dudley Town being the visitors to the HDAnywhere Community Stadium tomorrow afternoon (Saturday), Jones told the Observer his players need to start holding on to a winning position.

“I was frustrated with the result on Tuesday night and we have to question if we did enough to see out the game properly,” he said.

“We had not played very well and found ourselves 2-0 up but we just kept trying for the third goal and in the end Dudley caught us on the break and salvaged a point.

“It could have been worse but we are a young side and we have to learn from our mistakes.

“Perhaps instead of having six attackers in the final third at 2-0 up we only need about four. I praised the players to the heavens for continuing to go for the third goal but I think we need to be cuter to make sure we stay in front.

“Dudley Town are a tough side but I’ll be wanting the players to play our way of football and get back to winning ways.”

Attacker Nathan Hughes is to make a return for the Hillsiders while defender Paul Edwards (holiday), striker Luke Corbett (hamstring) and Aaron Richards (suspended) will be unavailable.

Chris Parker, Sam Rathbone and Louis Loader will also miss the game due to knee injuries.
