BRANSFORD Golf Club ladies won their annual challenge clash against the seniors with a little help from the men.
Played in glorious weather, the event featured four-ball better-ball matches with four men agreeing to switch allegiance to the female ranks.
They were Brian Corfield, Roy Williams, John Phillips and Neil Sheldon who joined in the fun and spirit of the match by donning bright pink trousers, top and wig.
This transfer of allegiance proved crucial as those pairings, who received bemused looks from other golfers out on the course, both won their matches to turn the tide in favour of the ladies for a four and a half to three and a half victory.
The match saw Jodie Bennett (21 handicapp) and Pat Farr (34) beat Rob Blake (15) and Robin Young (31), June Atkinson (21) and Jane Smallwood (28) beat Ian Hamilton (12) and Mike Kemp (28), Barbara Ramsden (16) and Heather Buckett (39) halved with Trevor Atkinson (14) and Dick Bettsworth (27), Anne Hamilton (22) and Trish Godwin (30) lost to Gerry Rebbeck (15) and Mike Holmes (28), Pauline Wetton (28) and Eve Lynes (31) lost to Graham Wilks (17) and Robin Walker (24), Leigh Thomas (21) and Cynthia Holmes (35) lost against Harry Godwin (18) and Rob Wetton (22), Brian Corfield (23) and Roy Williams (21) – Brenda and Rosie – beat Dave Miller (19) and Andy Falconer (26), and John Phillips (22) and Neil Sheldon (21) – Joanne and Nellie – beat Ted Buckett (18) and Alan Wallcroft (21).
Meanwhile, another big winner on the day was the club’s fundraising efforts for Macmillan Nurses which included home made cakes baked by the ladies sold for individual donations and a ‘Guess the Spots on the Cake’ competition, all of which raised more than £200.
The amount was further boosted by Anne Hamilton who won the cash prize for getting nearest to the spots total and then donated it to the charity total.
