A WEST End star took time out of her hectic rehearsal schedule to coach youngsters at a Malvern dance school.
Holly Dale Spencer, who is most famous for her appearance in the 2012 production of Les Misérables alongside Hollywood actress Anne Hathway, visited Ballet Malvern Centre of Dance, on Cowleigh Road on Sunday.
Holly has also appeared in Oliver, American Psycho, The Grapes of Wrath and White Christmas, as well as a touring production of Annie.
The 32-year-old, who is currently preparing to play Nickie in the Broadway classic ‘Sweet Charity’ in Manchester, taught students the songs and dances from Mary Poppins – a show which the ballet is preparing to stage in December.
Holly led two sessions for 25 students at Ballet Malvern – one for seven to 11-year-olds and one for 12 to 16-year-olds.
Rebecca Sloan-Kirton, dance principal at Ballet Malvern, said: “Holly was so fantastic. We thought it would be fun with our production also being Mary Poppins this year, and it was a unique opportunity for our students to learn from a professional working in the industry.
“Holly taught the children the songs and dances of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Step In Time, and they absolutely loved it.” added Rebecca, who has pioneered the groundbreaking RSK Youth Dance Company, for youngsters of all shapes and backgrounds.
“One of the girls tells me she can’t stop doing the Supercali dance and others have been engrossed watching YouTube clips of the show on Broadway and in the West End.
“They’re so excited to have learned the actual dances. Another told me she feels as if she has more confidence since doing the workshop. It’s wonderful.
“We can’t wait to work with her again.”
Sweet Charity runs at Manchester’s Royal Exchange from December 3 to January 21.
