THE MANAGER of a care home in Malvern says she has been left “shocked and honoured” after getting through to the regional finals of a prestigious awards ceremony.

Sue Milward, who has been at the helm of Hastings Residential Care Home in Barnards Green Road since 2010, discovered she had been shortlisted for the Care Home Manager accolade in the Great West Midlands Care Awards after being nominated by Sanctuary Care who run the home.

Speaking of her surprise, Sue said: “I feel very proud and honoured. I wasn’t expecting to be nominated so when I was told I was in complete shock – and over the moon.

“I feel so happy that my team, our residents and their loved ones took the time to write testimonials to go alongside the nomination, they wrote some lovely things about me.”

The nomination for Sue highlights how she is passionate about caring for her residents with dignity, helping them to live life to the full, as well as empowering her team to reach their full potential by supporting them with training opportunities, as well as giving them personal guidance.

The award is given to a manager who demonstrates a high level of expertise and exceptional skill, as well as someone who treats residents with the upmost dignity and respect and who actively supports their staff to develop in terms of career opportunities.

Anastasia Meredith, Sue’s regional manager added: “At Sanctuary Care our ethos is keeping kindness at the heart of our care and Sue truly embodies this. She is an incredible manager and her residents, the team at Hastings and I are incredibly proud of her. She is so deserving of this award.”

Sue will be attending the awards gala night on Thursday, November 24 at the ICC in Birmingham, where the category winners will be announced.

The winners of the regional awards will then go forward for the Great British Care Awards national finals, which take place in spring next year in Birmingham.
