WORCESTER WOLVES have completed the signing of centre Maurice Walker with boss Paul James hoping his arrival change the club’s indifferent fortunes this season.
Walker, a 6’10” Canadian-British player arrives from Latvian team Valmiera where he averaged 6.8 points per game.
Normally a power forward/centre, Walker also played in Cyprus for Keravonas and in Italy-Serie A for VL Pesaro.
The 24-year-old attended the University of Minnesota where in his final year 2014-15 he averaged 11.8ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.5spg and 1.3bpg.
Maurice said: “I’m excited. It’s going to be a good opportunity for me and I’m here to help the team in any way I can.”
He joins the club with Wolves making their worse start to a British Basketball League campaign for several years having lost six out of their first nine league matches.
But James said he hopes the transfer will give the team the lift it needs and help them climb the table.
“The club has been working long and hard in search of a centre player such as Walker,” he said.
“We have had an indifferent start to the season and with the addition of Maurice we are looking to turn things around quickly.
“Maurice will give us that inside presence at both ends of the floor that we have been lacking so far this season.
“I’m sure he is going to have a great impact on the team.”
