THOUSANDS got into the festive spirit as the Christmas countdown in Malvern began in style.

An array of activities were held throughout the town on Saturday with the return of the Malvern Christmas Festival – organised by Malvern Hills District Council and Malvern Town Council.

Father Christmas made a special visit to Malvern Library where he was greeted by a number of young and excited fans. The Library also other attractions including a Victorian fairground ride, a bouncy castle, food and gift stalls, face-painting, children’s crafts and music.

Visitors were able to listen to live music inside the Priory Church from 11am where lovely and inspirational family stories were told throughout the day.

And the big event, co-ordinated by BBC Hereford and Worcester, was watched by thousands as the Malvern’s Lights were switched on to huge cheers in the early evening.

This year the lights will be turned on by two of the stars from this year’s Malvern Theatres pantomime, Sleeping Beauty – Amy Thompson from Milkshake and Chris Pizzey from the Basil Brush Show.

Malvern Cube and ARCOS will also held fun events throughout the day.
