AN ‘EXOTIC’ chicken discovered lost near the grounds of Stanbrook Abbey earlier this week has been safely returned to its owners.
On Monday, councillor Tom Wells called for help on his Facebook page asking if anyone had lost the chicken.
He wrote: “In recent weeks this good looking lady has been seen near the gate along the path in front of Stanbrook Abbey. With the weather turning ever colder I am sure she would like to be tucked up inside a chicken shed away from hungry foxes.”
But earlier today (Friday), Coun Wells expressd his delight that the chicken had been returned to its owners – the management team at Callow End pub The Old Bush.
He has since discovered the bird was a rare Cream Legbar chicken.
Coun Wells posted: “The role of local councillor took on a new meaning this week..Along with the usual huge amount of telephone calls and emails to deal with, I am delighted to report that we have managed to return this rather exotic chicken to her rightful owners.
“And I didn’t know there was such a bird as a Cream Legbar.
“She belongs to Matt,Karen and Shanna at The Old Bush and I had spotted her half a mile away in the Stanbrook Abbey grounds.”
