Nominations now open for this year's Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards

Malvern Editorial 13th Mar, 2017   0

NOMINATIONS are now open for the seventh Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards which recognises coaches, clubs, volunteers and sporting stars.

Thirteen awards are up for grabs including Positive Change of the Year and Sports School of the Year, which are new for 2017.

The awards are run by the district council and the ceremony will be hosted by BBC Hereford and Worcester drive time presenter Andrew Easton and produced by Malvern-based AN Event Services.

Category winners will be announced during a ceremony on Thursday, July 13 at the Bank House Hotel – a new location for the awards which have proved so popular that they have outgrown their previous home at Malvern College.

More than 200 guests including nominees, their families, local sport and leisure clubs and organisations, local businesses, councillors, police and more will be attending this year’s sports awards.

Coun David Watkins, portfolio holder for healthier communities, said: “Our five year plan reflects our commitment to encouraging people across our district to be more active.

“By shining a light on those who have a positive impact on sport in the community, we hope to inspire others to get active too.

“I would urge everyone to nominate a club, team or individual who they think deserves to be celebrated at this prestigious event.”

Winners of the awards will then be shortlisted for the prestigious County Sports Awards in November, which is hosted by Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 26 and forms are available to download from www.malvernhills.gov.uk/sports-awards.

Any companies or organisations who would like to sponsor an award should email [email protected] for more information.
