Hanley Castle High School organise surprise Aston Martin visit for girls' success

Malvern Editorial 30th Mar, 2017   0

FOUR girls from Hanley Castle High School got the chance to sit in a top of the range Aston Martin following their success in the Cybergirls Challenge.

Year Ten pupils Emily Manton, Libby Nicklin, Hannah Revett and Alex Vickers reached the national finals of the challenge which were held in London on Sunday and Monday.

The group did not claim the overall award but finished in the top ten and had to beat more than 2,100 teams from across the country to reach this stage.

The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) set up the challenge to raise the profile of careers for women in the cyber-security industry as there is a huge difference between men and women going into such jobs.

When the girls started the project, science teacher Mrs Diana Hawkins promised them an Aston Martin if they did well.

After reaching the national finals, the school contacted HR Owen – the Aston Martin dealership in Cheltenham – and arranged for a surprise ride in the brand new Vanquish S model.
