WORCESTERSHIRE’S art strategy for the next three years has been officially launched and is more critical to the county ‘than ever before.’

More than 100 delegates from the arts and cultural sector attended Worcestershire Arts Partnerships’ launch of their ‘1000 Days’ strategy last Wednesday (April 5).

The launch had a theme of journeys and was compered by Steve Wilson, Worcestershire County Council’s Arts Officer.

At the event, a number of guest speakers from the five priority areas of the strategy; ambition, arts and health, children and young people, the economy and artist development made speeches.

It also saw the former Chair of the Worcestershire Arts Partnership, Professor Judith Elkin, stand down and the confirmation of the new Chair, Anne Hannaford.

Guest speakers included Charlotte Gregory from Vamos, Oakley Flanagan who is the current Young Poet Laureate of Worcestershire and Sally Morgan from Worcestershire Open Studios.

Steve Wilson, WCC Arts Officer, said: “The launch was an exceptional and inspiring event but for me the hard work starts here.”

Professor Judith Elkin, former chair of the Worcestershire Arts Partnership, said: “Creative thinking and innovation are critically important to the health and wealth of the nation.

“I wish the Worcestershire Arts Partnership and the 1000 days strategy every success under the leadership of its new chair.”
