Malvern residents reminded to vote in county council elections

Malvern Editorial 28th Apr, 2017   0

RESIDENTS across Malvern are being reminded to vote for whom they want to be their local county councillor when elections take place next Thursday (May 4).

Worcestershire County Council elections take place every four years and there are 57 seats up for election across the county.

Residents who are registered to vote will have received a poll card ahead of the elections telling them where and when to vote.

Polling stations across the county will be open from 7am – 10pm.

Postal ballot packs have also been issued to residents who have successfully applied to vote by post.

Detailed instructions are included in the pack on how to complete and return a postal vote.

Anybody unable to vote due to unforeseen health reasons, an “emergency” proxy vote application can be made up to 5pm on polling day by contacting your local district council’s elections office.

Simon Mallinson, returning officer for Worcestershire County Council, said: “Worcestershire County Council spends a net budget of around £320 million each year on services that affect local residents and the local economy, from highways to libraries, public health, education and social care.

“Our elections take place every four years, so your vote is important to help shape the County Council and its services between now and 2021.

“I would encourage everyone who is registered to vote to make sure they use it.”

Further information and guidance on the county council’s elections, including a full list of persons nominated and the location of polling stations across the county, can be found at www.worcestershire.gov.uk/elections.
