Simon Geraghty re-elected as leader of Worcestershire County Council

THE LEADER of Worcestershire County Council, Simon Geraghty, has been re-elected.

Coun Geraghty, a Conservative councillor for Worcester – Riverside first became the authority’s leader in January last year.

Following his re-election at yesterday’s (Thursday) full council meeting, he said: “I would like to thank the members of the council for re-electing me as the leader of the council.

“We are making progress on the challenges we face but there is a lot to do and I am determined to deliver the ambitions that we have set out in our vision for the county, ‘Shaping Worcestershire’s Future’.”




Coun Geraghty has appointed Adrian Hardman to be his deputy.

The Conservative councillor for Bredon will also take on the responsibility for adult services in a newly-formed cabinet.


Other Cabinet appointments announced were:

· Responsibility for children and families – Coun Andy Roberts

· Responsibility for education and skills – councillor Marcus Hart

· Responsibility for health and well-being – Coun John Smith

· Responsibility for communities – Coun Lucy Hodgson

· Responsibility for transformation and commissioning – Coun Karen May

· Responsibility for the environment – Coun Tony Miller

· Responsibility for economy and infrastructure – Coun Ken Pollock

· Responsibility for highways – Coun Alan Amos

On announcing his new cabinet Coun Geraghty added: “In selecting my new cabinet I was keen to have a team that combines experience with some fresh ideas.

“I believe this team does exactly that and I am looking forward to working with them to deliver our ambitions for the county and ensure that we provide good value for money services.”

Anne Hingley, councillor for St Barnabas in Kidderminster, is the county council’s new chairman while Coun Brandon Clayton, member for Redditch North, is the new vice-chairman.
