A FIVE-YEAR-OLD has pedalled her way to success after taking part in a national learn to ride programme in Upton-upon-Severn.
Mia Bowcott recently attended the Balanceability course at The Hill Centre and within just a few weeks she was cycling away without stabilisers.
Set up by Malvern Hills District Council, the courses offer children the opportunity to develop the essential skills needed to be able to ride a bike at an early age.
Balanceability is the UK’s first and only accredited learn to cycle programme which involves a schedule of fun activities which builds confidence, spatial awareness and balance skills to enable young children to cycle without needing stabilisers.
Mia’s dad Adrian Bowcott said: “We are so pleased Mia can now ride her bike, it didn’t take long at all.
“After the Balanceability lesson Mia took away the skills she needed to practice at home, within just a few weeks Mia was able to ride her bike.
“Everything just fell into place, she just picked up the bike, pushed herself off and started pedalling.
“I was amazed and it really does work.”
Rachel Vann, Balanceability teacher from Malvern Hills District Council, added: “Mia’s achievement is wonderful, and it is so lovely to see she now has the confidence and skills to ride a bike without stabilisers.”
Courses take place at Upton Hill Centre and Sport Dyson Perrins and cost £5 per child, per session.
