Historic Hanley Castle manor to host special fund-raiser for St Mary's Church

A MAGNIFICENT 17th century manor in Hanley Castle will soon be host to a special cream tea event to raise vital funds for its local church.

The historic estate in Severn End dates back to Jacobean times and is home to Sir Nicholas Lechmere and his wife Caroline, who will host the event on Saturday 22 July, from 3pm to 6pm.

Money raised from the event will go to The Friends of St Mary’s Church who dedicate their work to the preservation and maintenance of the church and its grounds, including war memorial repairs.

St Mary’s Church dates back to the 12th century, is one of the oldest buildings in the village of Hanley Castle, and has an important presence in the community.

Mr Lechmere said: “I am really looking forward to welcoming people to the event and hope that they enjoy the delicious cream teas as well as the beautiful scenery.

“Hanley is a wonderful village with great community spirit, and we hope to raise much needed funds for the church.”

An array of homemade scones, jams, cream cakes and refreshments will be on offer at the event, along with entertainment from local musicians.

The entry fee is £5 per person, which includes a cream tea.
