Closure order granted following drug related anti-social behaviour at house on Sherrards Green Road, Malvern

A MALVERN house associated with drug activity and anti-social behaviour has been hit with a closure order.

West Mercia Police applied for the order, under the provisions of the Anti-Social Behaviour; Crime and Policing Act 2004, at Worcester Magistrates’ Court following concerns raised by residents of drug-related activity and anti-social behaviour at a property on Sherrards Green Road.

It was said this was causing considerable distress and upset.

Officers then ensured the housing association-owned property was vacated by its resident and it was secured to prevent any unauthorised entry.

The closure order was granted on today (Thursday) and will last just under three months.

A sign has been placed on the door warning it is an offence to enter the property during this time.

Penalties for breaching the order include a fine and up to 51 weeks in prison.

PC Susan Parr, of Malvern Hills Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We’ve received a number of complaints from members of the public concerned about the activities in and around these premises, including drug dealing, drug use and anti-social behaviour.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public who have played a pivotal role in our enquiries and supported our application – enabling West Mercia Police to take the appropriate action.”

Superintendent Kevin Purcell added: “The police, local authorities and other community safety partner agencies, such as social housing landlords, all have a responsibility to deal with anti-social behaviour.

“West Mercia Police is committed to protecting the public and tackling any behaviour which has a negative impact on the wider community.

“As a result of this order being granted by the court, it sends out a clear message that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
