A MALVERN quilt artist scooped up a major international prize at Europe’s largest patchwork event last week.
Lesley Brankin won first prize in the Arts Quilts category at The Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham.
The event draws hundred of entries from talented textile artists from all over the world.
Judged by a panel of leading figures from the art and quilting worlds, The Festival’s annual competition celebrates quilts which transcend craft and demand equal billing with gallery quality art works.
Lesley’s stunning miniature work, Big Brother, explored how many of our everyday movements and actions are being monitored and recorded without our knowledge.
It received high praise from competition judges who said: “This a well considered design with strong focus which interprets the theme as well as the concerns of society in a well constructed manner.”
The quilt will be displayed in the Textile Galleries at The Knitting & Stitching Show in London (Alexandra Palace) this October and in Harrogate in November.
