SPECTATORS eagerly waiting for the Tour of Britain cycling extravaganza to hurtle through Upton-upon-Severn this weekend are to be treated to a feast of toe-tapping, sing-along-songs by the Upton Twangers String Band.
The Twangers, made up of guitar, ukulele and mandolin players have joined together to entertain the crowd and spur on the cyclists with numbers by the Beatles, Bill Haley Status Quo, the Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Neil Diamond, Tom Jones and many more.
The ‘scratch band’ will be performing near to the church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, on Old Street, from 11am on Sunday when Worcester is hosting the start of the final stage of this year’s Tour of Britain cycling event.
The journey will take in Pershore, Upton-upon-Severn and the Malvern Hills at British Camp before heading to the finish line in Cardiff.
The Twangers organiser Mark Whittal-Williams said: “We are all friends with a shared interest in music-making and cycling.
“We thought it would be fun to entertain those waiting for the cyclists to pass through Upton-upon-Severn and we are also taking the opportunity to collect for Cancer Research UK if anyone feels they would like to donate.”
