Malvern residents reminded by fire authority to test smoke alarms every week

Malvern Editorial 3rd Oct, 2017   0

THE FIRE authority has urged Malvern residents to test their smoke alarms every week.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) is asking people to make sure their alarms are up to date, in the right place and to test them regularly.

This month HWFRS is encouraging everyone across the two counties to make sure they have enough smoke alarms in the home and that they work.

Station commander Stuart Crebbin said: “A smoke alarm can offer vital protection for you and your loved ones, but most people simply fit and forget – they don’t know if it might be coming to the end of its lifespan or not working at all.

“For most of us, there is nothing more important than keeping our loved ones safe and secure.”

HWFRS have offered these tips to ensure alarms are in working order:

  • Check the packaging for the smoke alarm to make sure it is still up to date
  • Make sure there is at least one smoke alarm on every level of the house
  • Fit smoke alarms on landing and hallways
  • Test smoke alarms every week

Anybody who thinks someone may benefit from a free Home Fire Safety Check then call HWFRS on 0800 032 1155 and quote reference NEWS.
