Malvern extend winning run with 51-21 success at Southam

MALVERN continued their flying start to the new Midlands Two West (South) season with a 51-21 victory at Southam.

The league leaders were on the scoreboard within 30 seconds as Rob Cook went over for a try which he then converted.

Southam then pulled three points back with a penalty but back came the visitors as the in-form Tom Hale crossed the line with Cook again slotting the conversion.

The Warwickshire hosts then scored two more penalties to move to within five points of Malvern.

But Hale then went over once again with the ever reliable Cook kicking the extras.

However, Southam hit back with a converted try before two penalties from Cook extended Malvern’s lead to 27-16 going into the break.

After the interval, Malvern’s Adam Dixon touched down with Cook kicking the difficult conversion to extend the visitors’ lead to 18 points.

After Jack Longley was yellow carded, Southam made the extra-man count to score in the corner but Malvern hit straight back.

Hale went over for his hat-trick try with Cook maintaining his 100 per cent kicking record.

Cook then bagged a try, which he converted himself, before kicking a late penalty to secure a resounding win.

Malvern, who have won four out of four league games, entertain Nuneaton Old Edwardians on Saturday (3pm KO).
