THE POPULAR Roald Dahl classic The Witches will be this year’s Christmas production by the Malvern Theatre Players.
In this faithful adaptation of his classic children’s story Dahl introduces Boy, a youngster who has the misfortune to stay at a seaside hotel at the same time as a convention of witches, who are planning to turn children everywhere into mice.
The ghastly truth about these horrid creatures is revealed, literally warts and all, and the play follows Boy and his friend Bruno in their valiant efforts to stop the witches’ evil scheme.
Dahl’s story was magically and stylishly adapted for the stage by David Wood in 1992 and has toured successfully and played in the West End.
In this sparkling production, children will love the illusions and puppetry as people disappear into thin air on stage or are turned into mice, while grown-ups will enjoy the sly humour.
Playing in Malvern’s intimate Coach House Theatre, there will be plenty of opportunities for the audience to join in the fun.
“I do hope people enjoy our interpretation of this delightful story and we want them to feel free to join in and boo and cheer as much as they like,” said Chris Bassett, company manager of Malvern Theatre Players.
The Witches will be performed at the Coach House Theatre, Grange Road, from Saturday, December 16 to Thursday, December 21.
It will also appear from Thursday, December 28 to Sunday, December 31.
